For us, it's all about coming together to share, learn, and grow on the water.

The goal of Tri-State Recreational Kayak Fishing Club is to promote the enjoyment of kayak fishing through organized events, including tournaments, camping and fishing trips, and monthly gatherings. The Club fosters a community of enthusiasts who share knowledge, skills, and a passion for the sport in a supportive and non-competitive environment.

Our members include those who have participated in competitive kayak fishing clubs, with some even achieving significant success, such as winning major events or earning the title of Angler of the Year.  However, many began to feel that competition was overshadowing the true reasons we started kayak fishing—escaping the daily grind, enjoying nature, and finding peace.   Additionally, the joy of meeting others who share a love for kayak fishing and spending quality time on the water together.

This realization led to the creation of a non-competitive kayak fishing club, where tournaments are referred to as derbies and a handicap system was introduced. These measures ensure that everyone can enjoy a friendly competition, but more importantly, focus on camaraderie and learning more about kayak fishing.

Our Club Derbies are not about winning. We have designed the events to promote teamwork and introduced handicaps so that both experienced and novice anglers can enjoy friendly competition. Additionally, we keep the prize money small to ensure that the focus remains on fun rather than fierce competition.

Ultimately, the goal of our club is to build a community of like-minded individuals who enjoy fishing for the love of the sport and the fellowship it brings, rather than the competitiveness.
